Some beginners of Life Cultivation practice think Jingzuo is a very mysterious matter. Yet Jingzuo is only a form of meditation involving sitting. Once we learn and practice it, we will start to love it because it makes us feel comfortable and relaxed. It is simple and fun to get into it. Let us get into Jingzuo in greater detail.
Jingzuo is a static fitness method. It makes us fit without moving, and that is why we call it static.
To put it simply, it involves closing our eyes and sitting cross-legged, adjusting our breath, putting our hands in a certain position, and not thinking about anything. That is easy, right?
The practice is called Jingzuo because we are required to sit and be silent. It is a basic practice in Taoism. It is called Zen Sitting in Buddhism which is a compulsory practice in Zen Buddhism.
Since it involves sitting, how to sit is a major subject. Usually we sit cross-legged and are divided into natural posture, single-cross posture, and double-cross posture.
Jingzuo practice will nourish our body and prolong our life. It will also open up our wisdom and increase our wisdom. In the practice of Chinese martial arts, Jingzuo is also a way to increase our internal strength and willpower.
Jingzuo practice literally means to sit quietly. Therefore, one of the essence of the practice is quietness, meaning we will sit for a long time and be calm. If we sit for a long time, we will be fixed. If we are physically active for a long time, we will feel tired.
Therefore if we practice Jingzuo for hours, we should exercise our muscles and bones by doing the Mustang Shenzhan Technique to relax our physical body, combining stillness with soft activities. This is merely for your reference. Use your judgment in your particular situations.
As far as the Jingzuo sitting posture is concerned, most people will choose the double cross-legged posture. A practitioner will go into calmness faster, and control his mind more efficiently. With a single cross-legged posture, it is easier for the practitioner to scatter his spirit and attention. However, it is more difficult for a beginner to start with a double cross-legged posture. It is an option for a practitioner to think about.
01 The best time to practice Jingzuo
01 The best time is Yinshi
The best time to practice Jingzuo is Yinshi, the two hours before dawn, say between three to five in the morning. At this time, most people enter deep sleep, which is the quietest time. Sitting quietly at this time, it is easy to become still.
02 Yinshi time for energy exchange
At these hours, the Yang-energy starts to rise, the Yin-energy starts to fall, the two forms of energy start to interact with each other, and heaven and earth intersect. After the sun rises, Yang-energy leaks out, so it is less suitable for cultivation.
03 Yinshi energy is pure
At these hours, the Yang-energy is pure and it is much safer for us to practice without something going wrong. At this time the negative substances of heaven and earth are extinct. Thus it is most suitable for us to cultivate our body without contamination.
04 Yinshi transportation of nutrients is greatly improved
At these hours, our Lung Meridian is active and in command of all other meridians. During these hours, the human body’s veins gradually wake up and receive nutrients from the lungs. Once our meridians are fully nourished, we will become more energized.
This time is not suitable for heavy exercise, because our meridians have just received nutrients and have not yet digested them. If we exercise, it is easy to hurt our meridians.
Most people are in deep sleep during Yinshi. At this time, the body’s energy and blood flow is the slowest, so the ability to transport nutrients is extremely limited, and the ability to nourish all meridians is also very limited.
At this time, if the consumption of energy is too great during the day before, and the ability to nourish the body is very limited, the replenishment of energy is smaller than the consumption, and disease will slowly lurk.
When we get up and practice Jingzuo for a while, our body is still in a state of deep relaxation, but the energy and blood have begun to run at a high speed, so the ability to transport nutrients has been greatly improved. It will nourish the whole body so that it has the ability to support the consumption of energy during the day, and make our body healthy and energetic.
05 Yinshi kidney essence is nourished
At these hours, the kidney essence and the brain are nourished, and the bone marrow is regenerated.
At these hours, the meridians of the gallbladder, small intestine and stomach become active, and they in turn affect the liver, heart and spleen.
At these hours, we should sip a glass of warm water before our Jingzuo practice. At this time, the spleen that controls the blood, the liver that stores the blood, and the heart that pumps the blood all wake up and start working.
In addition, when the Lung Meridian is in control, all four internal organs begin to work, re-digesting and absorbing nutrients in the body, and nourishing the innate kidney essence.
Once the kidney essence is nourished, it begins to nourish the brain. When the brain marrow is replenished, the marrow will be regenerated, and the human body will begin to move towards youth.
For the twenty-four hours in a day, only Yinshi meets the above conditions. Therefore, Jingzuo practice should be done at Yinshi. We will not achieve the same effect at any other time.
To be continued.
