The Taiji Primordial Stance II

In the very beginning of the Universe, there is Wuji, a state of Vastness or Infinity. After Wuji, there is Taiji. At this time, although Taiji is pregnant with yin and yang, it has not yet been separated, and it is still in a state of mixed energy, still a unity of mixed elements.

Following this principle, we now practice the Taiji Primordian Stance. As the name suggests, this practice will mainly guide our hunyuan qi, that is, the qi of neutralizing yin and yang. Now, let us start the process.

Practicing Taiji Primordial Stance

01 The Posture

01 Standing naturally

Stand naturally. Relax the whole body. Stand with feet parallel to shoulder width, arms naturally drooping on both sides of the body, palms facing inward, and eyes looking forward.

Pay special attention to the fact that the feet are shoulder-width apart so that the yongquan acupoint on the sole of the foot and the jianjing acupoint on the shoulder are in line with each other up and down. Then the spring eye of the yongquan acupoint and the well hole of the jianjing acupoint can communicate with each other up and down. Now the blood and energy flows of the body will go up and down freely. It is the foundation of the Primordial Stance practice.

02 Sit firmly on a high stool

Then slightly loosen and sink the waist and hips, causing the knees to bend slightly, and the hips to go down slightly, as if sitting on a high stool. At this point, the crotch and anus should be lifted, the neck should be loose and straight, and the torso should be centered. Pay special attention to the lowering of the tail, restrain the buttocks, and keep the tips of the knees in line with the toes. In other words, the knees should not exceed the toes, and the buttocks should not exceed the heels, in perpendicular straight lines.

03 Hold a balloon in front of you

Immediately lift the arms loosely, the high should not be above the shoulders, the low should not be below the navel, the elbows should not exceed the knees, and the shoulders should not exceed the hips.

Rotate the wrists and turn the palms so that the laogong acupoints of the palms now face each other far away. Now the fingers are loosely stretched, the arms are semi-circular, and the two arms are encircled in front of the chest , like hugging a big balloon. You have now formed a human hunyuan aura.

04 Maintain a natural face

Slightly draw in the chin but do not lower the head. Think of the tip of the nose facing the navel (to facilitate the circulation of the ren meridian and du meridian.)

Keep a smile on the face, close the mouth naturally, close the teeth, touch the tip of the tongue to the upper palate. Close the eyes with slits open so that the eyes are seemingly closed but not closed. You are now using the inner inspection technique to look inside the navel. You are now in the state of bao yuan shou yi, meaning that you are holding a circle at One with Nature.

05 Maintain a tranquil mind and relaxed body

The relaxation and tranquility method of this practice is known as the mechanism lies in the eyes technique.

First relax the eyelids, then relax the facial muscles and the cerebral cortex. Once the brain is relaxed, the mind can be calmed. When the mind is calm, the joints of the whole body can be loosened one by one, and the muscles can also be relaxed.

The relaxation and stillness of the whole body seems to open the gate, so that the inner qi can flow unimpeded. It gradually moves towards the state of round qi, round energy, and round spirit, which is the state of hunyuan qi.

02 Critical comment

The practice of the primordial stance is to train or guide our breathing. This should be conducted in a progressive way. We use our mind or thinking to practice this technique. You should follow the one, two, three steps in using thinking below.

01 Exert a little thinking

Breathe naturally at first, as usual. You don’t need to use your thoughts too much, just keep your mind on the navel chakra, and don’t worry about the rest. This is the initial stage.

02 Exert Intentional thinking

The objective of the primordial stance practice is to use your thoughts to guide the refining of your qi. Here you can use your thoughts to induce the functional state sensation of heat, numbness, and swelling. You first induce the sensation in your fingers. Fingers are the most sensitive parts of your body. As the saying goes: Ten fingers connect to the heart.

You use the induction method to first sense that your middle fingers are hot, numb, and swollen, then all your fingers are hot, numb, and swollen. First it is imagination and induction, and soon you will really feel the hot, numb, and swollen sensation.

Then you induce the subcutaneous and inner muscles of your body, all internal organs, and even the large and small bones, and bone marrow to produce the feeling of hot, numb, and swollen sensation one by one.

To a certain extent, it is reputed to have beneficial effects on your heart, liver, stomach, and joints. However, the induced thoughts should not be too strong, and should not be persistent. The feeling of hot, numb, and swollen should only be peripheral. Do not try to force it. Do not try to help it along. Let Nature run its course.

03 Return to unintentional thinking

We have just described the ways to use our mind and thinking to guide the refining of our hunyuan qi. After reaching a certain depth, you may enter the state of no mind, a state of total void.

That is to say, all the above-mentioned intentions, including guidance and inducement, are not needed any more. You now return to the state of emptiness. You just stand quietly, loosely, and without desire in the Taiji hunyuan qi or vitality.

The real meaning comes from the state of unintentionality.

04 Difficulty in practice

As practitioners of life wellness, we find this practice of the primordial stance hard to follow. Only a few of us achieve the state of the hot, numb and swollen sensation driven by our thinking.

If you do not achieve this state in your practice, do not be dismayed, just try to reap the benefits of body wellness, that is, the benefits of a healthy body.

By this practice, if you can stand the correct way on a daily basis, you will be firmly rooted on the ground. If your opponent tries to push you, you will not fall to the ground easily.

Enjoy the practice.
