Mustang Shenzhan Technique Modalities

马晓山

Mustang Shenzhan Technique is a set of stretching exercises specifically designed for life cultivation practitioners like us. It is mainly for the maintenance and repair of our body. It is highly recommended that it be used in conjunction with other Mustang Cultivation Techniques.

What are the best stretching exercises for us to improve daily life?

As practitioners of life cultivation, we usually establish a stretching exercise routine to practice on a daily basis for the general health of our physical body. In order to do it right, we should first understand our body condition and plan accordingly.

First, we may need stretching exercises for the repair and maintenance of our physical body. We may also need stretching exercises for our peace of mind. There are different stretching exercises to accomplish these two different objectives, so we must choose wisely. Of course, many people may need stretching exercises for both purposes.

In the case of choosing stretching exercises for our physical health, we would first ask ourselves whether there are internal organs such as stomach and liver that we are concerned about, or is it our joints, muscles or eyesight. There are different stretching exercises for us to choose from.

For example, if we are concerned about our liver, we may choose the stretching exercise that involves clapping our palms firmly and evenly for twenty five minutes.

Second, we may need to do stretching exercises for our peace of mind, or to get rid of undesirable state of emotions such as grief and sorrow. There are different stretching exercises for us to choose from.

There are also stretching exercises that will firm up a completely normal and healthy body that will lay a solid foundation for the health of the whole body for a long time in the future. A healthy person who performs such stretching routines will benefit for many years of a healthy body in the future.

Therefore, it is important for us to analyse our situation and choose the appropriate stretching exercises for the cost and benefits ratio that is the lowest. We are then more likely to perform the routines. If we waste our time and energy doing the least beneficial exercise, we are more likely to consider it a waste of time and give up prematurely. It is a sad thing to do that.

Modalities of Mustang Shenzhan Technique

We have collected more than twenty modalities for the Mustang Shenzhan Technique. We will present five of them here. They are Modality Qiyang, Modality Baduanjin, Modality Zhanzhuang, Modality Shuaishou, and Modality Taiji. The remaining modalities will be presented further along the TAO.

Modality Qiyang

We typically practice it when we first wake up at dawn. We practice it to wake up our body from deep sleep.

It is especially useful for us to regenerate our five senses. We will have an overall feeling of seeing better, hearing better, smelling better, tasting better, and touching better. We will feel energetic to tackle the day ahead of us.

Modality Baduanjin

We typically practice it when we have a long period of time for stretching exercise. We will choose to do it in the evening if time permits.

Baduanjin helps us to loosen up our whole body. It will increase our blood and vital energy circulation. It will help in the maintenance and repair of our body. It will help to repair our internal organs.

Modality Zhanzhuang

We typically practice it when we have a long period of time for this exercise. We will choose to do it in the evening if time permits.

Zhanzhuang is the foundation that helps us to learn kung fu (martial arts). It trains us in reflex actions especially when we are under attack. It trains us to transmit forces to our advantage. It helps to train our mind to focus and react the right way.

Modality Shuaishou

We typically practice it when we have sat down for too long in front of a computer or television set. We will stand up and do this exercise to correct the altered posture.

It will help with our blood and vital energy circulation so that we will not be tired.

Modality Taiji

We typically practice it when we have a long period of time for stretching exercise. We will choose to do it in the evening if time permits.

Taiji helps us to loosen up our whole body. It will increase our blood and vital energy circulation. It will help in the maintenance and repair of our body. It will help to repair our internal organs.

We typically choose between Modality Baduanjin and Taiji for this purpose. However, it takes longer to learn and practice Taiji compared with Baduanjin. Moreover, Taiji can be used in defense when confronting an unexpected physical attack.
