Dantian Breathing Technique Part Two

As practitioners of Life Cultivation, all of us will learn and practice one form or other of The Tuna Technique. The Tuna Technique is a form of deep breathing, but it is very different from regular deep breathing, and the benefits to us are vastly increased.

The Tuna Technique comes in different forms. One of the most popular forms is adopted from Taoism. The Taoist form of Tuna focuses on Dantian Breathing. We practice the Taoist Tuna Technique for the prevention and treatment of illnesses, strengthening the physical body, and distributing vital-energy throughout the body. We will achieve this result after we practice more than one hundred days.

In the past, when the master taught the practice of Dantian Breathing, it focused on concentrating the mind to let the air enter through the proper Acupoint.

The proper acupoint referred to here is the Lower Dantian Acupoint. If we refer to the diagram above, the Lower Dantian Acupoint is the fourth red dot situated in the lower abdomen in front of our body, below the navel.

The Lower Dantian Acupoint goes to the Niwan Acupoint in the center of the top of the head, and the Yongquan Acupoint in the center of the bottom of the foot. It is the center of origin when we were born. It is the foundation of our life when we grow. It takes care of all the changes in our body. The mysterious and unpredictable opportunities come out from here.

This Lower Dantian Acupoint is an extraordinary orifice. Heaven and Earth are combined together here. This Acupoint is important as it contains all essence of our body.

The Way of Inner Practice is the simplest and the easiest. We only have to lower the fire from our heart into the water of our Dantian.

It is not necessary for us to learn about the theory of Dantian Breathing. If we practice it, we will reap all the benefits. Now let us learn how to practice Dantian Breathing.

First it involves Preparation, how we sit. Next it involves Setting up the Energy Field. Then we learn how to strengthen our vital energy field. Then we learn how to withdraw from the practice. Finally we learn how to take precautions in our practice.

As we have mentioned before, the proper way to learn and practice a technique is to do it this way.

  1. Read the instructions, understand them, memorize them.
  2. Visualize the instructions in your mind. If you have forgotten them, go back to read the instructions again.
  3. Visualize the instructions into video clips.
  4. Run the video clips over your mind until you are very familiar with them.
  5. Now you have learned and you can start to practice. You practice from the eyes in your mind, not your physical eyes.

Procedure for Practice

Step 2: Set up the field

Imagine you are sitting on a throne in the middle of a Taiji Bagua diagram. A circle of incense is burning around the throne.

Note. Doing this thought is like sitting in your own strong field of energy, and the effect of practicing is extremely obvious.

Next you open the door to heaven and close the door to earth. You do this by first contracting your anus to contract the perineum, and then you imagine you are opening the Baihui Acupoint at the top of your head.

Note. You open the gate of heaven to harvest the innate energy, and you close the door of the earth to keep the fetal breath inside you.

Next, imagine you are the only one practicing the technique between heaven and earth, and the surroundings are filled with pure energy.

You then apply the inner visualization technique that you have learned before and murmuring: I am inside the energy field. The energy is inside me. Heaven and Man are one. The energy is to be used by me.

Do this three times.

Note. You do this to attract the pure energy from all sides to fill up the room in order to nourish your birth-energy. The birth-energy is the energy that you bring with you at birth.

Now you relax your whole body in the following sequence: head → neck → shoulders → arms → front chest → back → front abdomen → back waist. All the time you relax your mind and smile.

Note: When you are relaxed and pleasant, it is conducive to tranquility, and conducive to the circulation of blood and vital energy.

Next you exhale the turbid air and inhale the fresh air, and reconcile the body and mind at the same time.

First you open your mouth and exhale the air slowly and continuously, thinking in your mind that you are spitting out disease with your breath. Then you close your mouth and inhale fresh air with your nose using the nine-bead technique. At the end of the ninth-count, you hold your breath briefly and then you exhale as before. Do this for three cycles.

Note. With the nine-bead technique, you count in your mind 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and with each count, you breathe in a piece of air with your nose.

When you breathe gently and evenly, you will quickly enter your vital-energy state.

Step 3: Build up the vital energy field

Imagine that there is a red sun in your Dantian area, radiating light, illuminating the five internal vital organs, six internal organs, four limbs, and hundreds of bones, driving away the sickness, and the whole body is merged in one auspicious light.

Then, imagine a beam of moonlight carrying the yin-energy from deep inside the Earth entering the body from the perineum directly to the Dantian area. At the same time, imagine a beam of sunlight carrying the yang-energy entering the body from the Baihui Acupoint directly to the Dantian area. Within the Dantian area, the red sun merges with the yin-energy and the yang-energy, and you can feel the Dantian area is getting warmer.

Note. The energy from birth. The energy from practice. Those who get it often seem drunk.

Maintain state one and state two mentioned above for an hour of practice. Meanwhile you are in a state of achieving knowledge but not guarding, survive first and then perish, open mind and then calm, leave no trace, nothing falls in vain, have a clear mind, and preserve silence.

Note. When you feel that your breathing is gentle and empty, that is the true power of miraculous transformation.

Practice this every evening and preserve silence. To achieve this result, a youth will take more than a month, a middle-age person will take more than a hundred days, and a senior will take more than a year.

The transformation comes naturally, without you knowing it. Something is born out of nothing, beyond what we can describe. You will have to experience it yourself.

Step 4: Withdrawal

Imagine that all the vital energy has returned to your Dantian area. Then close all the pores of your body so as not to let the inner energy dissipate.

If there is body fluid in your mouth, gargle several times and swallow it three times, and lead your mind to the lower Dantian area.

Rub your hands until they become warm, and then rub your face with both hands thirty six times, and then rub your ears thirty six times.

Gently tap your head from front to back nine times.

Make empty fists with both hands and beat your chest and back in turn thirty-six times.

Make empty fists and beat your ribs, abdomen and waist thirty-six times each.

Open your mouth to exhale the heat in your body three times to return to the state before the practice.

At the end, recite: True energy will protect my body. Evil energy will not invade my body.

Do it three times.

Precautions

Do not eat or drink (including water) within half an hour before and after the practice.

Do not eat or eat less foods that are too greasy, too sour, too hot and spicy or too bitter. In other words, foods should be neutral or bland.

Eat while you are hungry, and stop before you are full.

Do pooping and urination before practice so that you do not have an urge to do them while practicing.

The belt should not be too tight or too loose. You want to feel comfortable and natural while practicing.
