The case for retiring young

Somehow we have been led to believe that we have to work in order to live. That is wrong. The fact is we have to be healthy and alive to be working. Therefore, do not put the cart before the horse. Do not work for a living.

Our real enemies are factors that threaten our health arising from working. They include time-control, behavior-control, work pressure and the like. If you are still working, you know what we mean.

Work and rest must be in balance for our physical and mental health. If we feel uncomfortable working, we should seriously think and choose between working and retiring. We must make a conscious choice now for the remainder of our life.

The reason for pursuing retirement when we are still young is to get rid of the job of selling time in exchange for money as soon as possible. We want to regain our former ideals, pursue our original dreams, and do the things we love and better realize the value of life.

We do not want to say: my life begins after work. It is pathetic.

We can’t wait. Time is limited. Life needs to be exciting. We do not want to be busy and waste day after day.

01 The possibility of retiring young

So, the question is, is it possible to retire at a young age?

The answer is not universal. It depends on the personal situation of each person.

If you come from a wealthy family with financial endowment, and you do not have to work to live, you may retire young. You may not be working in the first place.

If you are an entrepreneur and you have successfully built a business, you may retire young. NOW.

If you have married someone who is making tons of money, you may retire young.

If you have landed on a way of making money without a job, you may retire young.

01 Financial independence

Before we launch our proposal of retiring young, let us see how other people propose to do it.

There is a concept called FIRE going around in the United States. FIRE stands for Financial Independence, Retire Early. It proposes financial independence as a condition for retiring young.

Basically the concept proposes that (1) we reduce our desires and reduce our expenditures, (2) we invest rationally to increase our income besides our income from our job, and (3) we use our hobbies to earn side income.

The concept urges us to grow a fund for retirement as soon as possible. Once we have a fund large enough to earn a stream of income based on a four percent return from the fund, then we can retire.

Do you buy this concept? We do not.

02 Why wait

First of all, we do not think financial consideration should be the priority factor for our life.

We talk to the lions about this concept. The lions laugh at us. They are free to roam the land, and money never comes into their consideration. We ask them what their plan is for their old age. Let us keep their answers a secret.

Since we can retire early, why can’t we do the things we like earlier? Do we have to wait until we are old and sick to do it?

In order to realize the wish of early retirement, we should not wait until retirement to do the things we like, but do it now and turn it into a lifelong career.

03 Old method

The idea of developing a side business based on hobbies and making money on the way is more in line with the requirements of those of us who want to retire young.

We want to retire young, and one of our purposes is to do something we like, devote our energy to it, realize our ideals, make our lives more meaningful, and better realize our life value.

It is not about success or failure here. It is a choice and a pursuit of a freer life.

In real life, people gain less and less sense of accomplishment through mechanical work, and they feel extremely tired of the same life no matter how much they resist. If this continues, they can only fall into a deeper and deeper vicious cycle. Therefore, we hope that we can move toward a free life through change and other choices.

To use hobbies to develop a side business, we can go the freelance route, or we can use our old method:

The specific operation will vary depending on each person’s situation. You can slowly explore it yourself, or you can ask your family members, or you can explore our website for ideas.

02 A brief summary

Retirement at a young age has become an increasingly urgent idea for many young people nowadays. However, the family environment is different for people and the burdens they carry are also different. We should take it step by step and do it slowly according to our actual conditions. When planning, we will be patient. We will not take evil paths. Haste makes waste.
