As we age: Secret of Longevity

It has nothing to do with diet, tobacco, alcohol or exercise.

What is the secret of longevity?

What kind of elixir did the long-lived old people take so that they can still have quick hands and feet and clear eyes and ears when they are old?

The winner of the Nobel Prize in Physiology uncovered the secret. It turns out that we have misunderstood the secret of longevity for so many years.

The race, climate, food, and customs in the longevity areas of various countries are different, and some are even contrary to the ways of health. For example, some elderly people are addicted to smoking and drinking, and they like to eat fat meat. One thing is the same, though, people who live long are optimistic, cheerful, kind-hearted and easy-going.

The way to live a long life summed up by the Nobel Prize winner Elizabeth and others is: If a person wants to live to be a hundred years old, a reasonable diet accounts for 25%, other 25%, and the role of emotional balance accounts for 50%.

01 Emotional balance

Stress hormones damage the body.

According to Huangdi Neijing, a medical classic in herbal medicine:

All diseases are born of qi. Anger causes qi to rise, joy causes qi to slow down, sadness causes qi to stagnate, shock causes qi to become disordered, and fatigue causes qi to waste.

Therefore, the heart should be treated first in the treatment of illnesses.

Modern medicine has discovered:

Cancer, arteriosclerosis, high blood pressure, peptic ulcer, irregular menstruation, etc. 65%-90% of human diseases are related to psychological depression.

Therefore, such diseases are called psychosomatic diseases.

02 Goal

Goal can stimulate vitality.

Case: On January 6 this year, Professor Fan Xuji, the former president of Shanghai Jiaotong University, celebrated his 100th birthday. He still conducts experiments, writes papers, and supervises doctoral students every day.

A high sense of purpose is good for your health, new research suggests, because having a purpose in life determines a person’s state of mind and, by extension, their body.

British scientists conducted a seven-year follow-up survey among people aged forty to ninety. The results found that those who did not have a clear goal in life, compared with those who had a clear goal in life, the number of people who died of illness or committed suicide was twice as high. The number of people with cerebrovascular disease also doubled.

Furthermore, medicine has long discovered that after retirement, due to the sudden disappearance of life goals, both physical and mental health will decline sharply.

Why?

The reason is that if you have no goal and death becomes the only goal, then the self-destruct mechanism hidden in your subconscious will be activated quietly, making your body go from bad to worse.

The goal must be practical, otherwise it will have side effects. Learning to sing, learn to square dance, learn to play chess, etc. can all be set as goals, and they are all feasible.

One great goal is for you to be actively involved in helping other people to achieve longevity and good health by joining our holistic wellness programs. You will attain health and happiness.

03 Helping others

Helping others is therapeutic.

Case: Rockefeller, the oil magnate, enjoyed the happiness brought by wealth accumulation for a short time, and his health deteriorated. After deep reflection, he decided to devote his wealth and energy to charity, and tried every means to help those who encountered difficulties in life. His mood then became exceptionally relaxed, and at the same time, his poor health was gradually improving.

Case: Run Run Shaw passed away at the age of 107. His willingness to help others is one of the reasons for his longevity. Over the years, he has donated a total of 3.4 billion Hong Kong dollars to mainland China. The Shaw Prize he founded has a fund of up to 5 billion Hong Kong dollars that has benefited many people.

The researchers found that giving material help to others can reduce the fatality rate by 42%; giving spiritual support to others can reduce the fatality rate by 30%.

Why?

A medical researcher in the United States wanted to understand this problem. He did a study: one hundred and six students under the age of twenty were divided into two groups: one group was the volunteer group; the other group was the volunteer backup group.

After ten weeks, the students in the volunteer group had significantly lower inflammatory symptoms, cholesterol levels and body mass index compared to the backup group.

Why does helping others produce health benefits?

Because, being kind to others and doing good deeds often produces an indescribable sense of pleasure and pride in the heart, which in turn reduces the level of stress hormones and promotes the secretion of beneficial hormones.

Experts in psychiatric epidemiology even say that developing the habit of helping others is a good way to prevent and treat depression.

04 Kindness

Giving kindness will reap kindness.

Case: A psychologist in the United States introduced the story of a female patient.

Alice suffered from depression due to a broken relationship a few years ago. She left her hometown in the East and moved to the Midwest to live. The pace of life in the Midwest is slow, and the relationship between people is very warm.

Several times, Alice got out of the parking lot and onto the driveway, and despite the long queues on the driveway, someone always made way for her. Alice was deeply moved by this kind of polite behavior.

Over time, Alice has also developed the habit of giving way to the cars coming out of the parking lot. She likes this kind of friendly behavior, and every little giving will bring her an indescribable happiness . A year later, Alice’s depression was gone.

05 Family harmony

The number one secret to longevity is family harmony.

Case: A peasant woman in Georgia lived to be one hundred and thirty two years and ninety one days. When she was one hundred and thirty years old, a reporter asked her the secret of longevity, and she replied: first of all, family harmony.

Two professors of psychology in the United States have accumulated twenty years of research and found that: among the decisive factors affecting life expectancy, interpersonal relationship ranks first.

They say:

Relationships may be more important than fruits and vegetables, regular exercise and regular check-ups.

Huangdi Neijing, a classic medical book in herbal medicine, said:

The yin and yang must be harmonized.

A follow-up survey of two hundred sixty eight men by Harvard Medical School also found that the real important thing in a person’s life is the relationship with others and the lack of social support. The health hazards are comparable to smoking and not exercising.

06 Interpersonal relationships

A twenty five year follow-up investigation of The relationship between personality and heart by a psychiatrist in the United States found that people with narrow-mindedness, fame and fortune, and strong hostility have a mortality rate as high as 14%. People with an easy-going personality have a mortality rate of only 2.5%. For the incidence of heart disease, the former is also five times the latter.

Analyzing the reasons, he said:

Poor interpersonal relationships fill his heart with anger, resentment, hostility and dissatisfaction, which will cause the sympathetic nerves to be in a state of hyperactivity from time to time, and excessive secretion of stress hormones such as adrenaline.

Furthermore, human beings are group animals, and to live is to live in interpersonal relationships. Psychologist Maslow summed up the needs of life, from low-level to high-level, in order of five categories:

Physiological needs, safety needs, social needs, esteem needs and self-actualization needs.

In addition to physiological needs, they are all related to interpersonal relationships. When the needs are met, happiness will be gained.

How to build a harmonious interpersonal relationship?

Guan Zhong, a statesman in the Spring and Autumn Period and Warring States Period in China’s history, said:

When you welcome people with kindness, they react like brothers. When you welcome people with meanness, they are harmful like warriors.

The relationship and reaction between people are like the echoes of people shouting in the mountains.

When you shout: “You are good.” The echo is “good. “

When you shout: “You are evil.” The echo is “evil.”

Some people have poor interpersonal relationships. It is entirely the result of fighting with others everywhere. A case in point is a politician in the United States.

Giving kindness, even if it is to give others a smile or a friendly expression, the concentration of immunoglobulin in the saliva will increase. This kind of antibody can strengthen the human immune system.

A professor of bioethics in the United States discovered the essence of echo through research:

There is a secret of magical energy conversion between giving and returning. That is, when a person is giving, the energy of returning is going to be echoed in various forms, but in most cases, he may not know it.

The giving that is conducive to harmonious interpersonal relationships includes: praise, humor, smile, respect, comity, easy-going, tolerance, forgiveness, understanding, sympathy, loyalty, listening, etc.

07 Conclusion

It turns out that the secret of longevity is not exposed, but hidden in everyone’s heart.

Peace, progress, harmony……

These positive attitudes are the real secret to supporting a person’s long life. Seeing this, shouldn’t you let go of the unpleasantness and face the world with a positive heart?
