
People in ancient times who knew The Way will model the Yin and Yang, harmonize in calculation, eat in moderation, live a regulated life, equalize work and play, thus the body and mind co-exists in harmony, who will live to be one hundred years old and then die.
The first principle of longevity is to model our life according to the Universe.
The second principle of longevity is to harmonize our life with numbers and do good deeds.
The third principle of longevity is to control our foods and drinks.
The fourth principle of longevity is to regulate our daily lifestyle.
The fifth principle of longevity is not to overextend ourselves.
The sixth principle of longevity is to harmonize our body and soul.
Beware that diseases originate from wind, cold, heat, dampness, dryness and fire.
Beware that diseases originate from disharmony of Yin and Yang.
07 Diseases originate from foods and drinks
As practitioners of life cultivation, we watch out for foods and drinks that we consume. It includes the kind of foods and drinks that we consume, and it also includes how much we eat them.
We have friends who like to drink alcoholic drinks. They like us to drink with them, saying “we are buddies, so drink along. “ However, we all know we should limit alcoholic drinks.
Compared with ancient times, we eat more cold foods and drinks, especially with the advance of refrigerators, and especially in the Summer. However, we should not eat cold foods and drinks even in the hot summer.
We need yang-energy in our body for us to function properly. When intake of cold foods and drinks, we will diminish our yang-energy. We know that the yang-energy cannot be created, and we always try to preserve them or reinforce them whenever we can. Therefore, it is a waste of the yang-energy and our longevity we squander our yang-energy.
You may not agree with us when you are young and full of the yang-energy. If you are in that condition, go ahead and eat cold foods. It will not hurt your health. However, if you keep on doing it that way without restraints until you are old, then you may feel the pinch.
The best way to eat our foods is hot foods. The best way to drink our drinks is to drink them at room temperature or when they are hot. Why do we drink cold coffee? It is not for our health. It is just a fashionable thing for us to do at the moment.
We may buy frozen foods because they are more convenient for us to do so. We work so we buy frozen foods so that we do not have to shop for them everyday. However, we should defrost them in the refrigerator overnight and cook them just like fresh foods.
Another issue on foods and drinks is one on meat and vegetables. Should we eat meat alone? Should we eat vegetables alone? By nature, we are omnivorous, and we should eat a mix of meat and vegetables.
What is the right ratio between meat and vegetables?
If you are a pure vegetarian, you may find it very inconvenient to live in this society when most people eat meat. From the point of health, most of us do not stick to the rules of a pure vegetarian. We eat vegetables when we eat alone at home. We eat a little meat when we eat with other people. This way, it does not interfere with our health.
The intestines and teeth of herbivores are different from those of carnivores. This is an objective indicator. Carnivores have sharp teeth. Herbivores have flat teeth. We have thirty-two teeth, and twenty-eight of them are flat teeth, and four of them are sharp teeth.
This is the standard for figuring out how much meat and how much vegetable we should eat. Do you agree?
