Origins of illness Part Six

People in ancient times who knew The Way will model the Yin and Yang, harmonize in calculation, eat in moderation, live a regulated life, equalize work and play, thus the body and mind co-exists in harmony, who will live to be one hundred years old and then die.

The first principle on longevity is to model our life according to the Universe.

To stay healthy we should harmonize our life with numbers and do good deeds.

03 To stay healthy control our foods and drinks

Everyone is all too familiar with this rule of eating. To control our foods and drinks does not mean how good and nutritious our foods and drinks should be. The keyword is to control, or to regulate.

When we are poor, our health is good. When we become more successful, we are entertained more by other people and by ourselves. Our belly gets bigger, and our health goes downhill.

Eventually we develop conditions known as highs. We tend to have high blood lipids, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high cholesterol and so on. These high conditions come with high income, right?

How did the highs come about? Lack of control. Control of what? Foods and drinks.

With higher income, we tend to eat more, and we tend to eat more rich foods.

There is a saying:

Illness comes in from the mouth. Disaster comes out from the mouth.

If we do not control our mouth and utter bad things, we will attract enemies and disaster may visit us. If we do not control our mouth and eat foods and drinks indiscriminately, we will build up bad conditions for our health.

Eating and drinking should be disciplined and controlled.

Why should we control our eating and drinking?

When we eat, the foods and drinks go from our mouth into our stomach and spleen. In the theory of five elements, the nature of our stomach and spleen is earth.

What is earth?

Earth is fundamental in growing plants as foods for us human beings and for other creatures. Thus earth is a necessity for plant growth. Nevertheless, if we observe things that grow on the earth, we will know why control should be exercised.

Let’s take a look at the growth of plants and the density of plants. If it is too dense, the plants will die. If it is too sparse, the yield will be low. We should control it so that it is not too dense or sparse, and the growth of plants will be optimal.

For the same reason, when we eat, we can neither be too hungry nor too full. If we remain too hungry, we will not have enough energy. If we are too full, it may cause sudden death. This control is paramount.

Let us observe nature again. When is the wheat planted? When is the rice planted? They all have a season for planting and growing. Different things grow at different times, which is also controlled by nature.

There are many questions and debates about our diet. One says that eating eggs is good, and another says that eating eggs is not good. What should we do?

Here we will neither say that eating eggs is good nor bad. We will talk about a basic principle, so everyone can make their own decisions after grasping this principle. We think it is the best way to handle the situation.

What is a control?

If we eat winter food in summer, this is out of control. We should eat according to the season. Why does this thing grow in summer, and why does that thing grow in winter? This is very mysterious, and it is worth pondering and learning.

Science has developed to such an extent that with a greenhouse, we can eat a vegetable at any time. Is that necessarily a good thing?

It is not necessarily a good thing for us. When God stipulates that something grows, it has a meaning. At this time, this thing is most needed, and at that time, that thing is most needed. God knows which thing is needed at the right time. This is called control. It is called follow.

If we do not follow the control of God and we insist on eating food that is not meant for the time, it is called decontrol, or reverse. Disaster will be born. If God brings disaster, there is still a way. If a person brings disaster on himself, there is no way to survive it.

In order to comply with the idea of control, we should try to eat seasonal things as much as possible, and not eat non-seasonal things.

What is the season?

Life is also very mysterious. For a particular time, it seems that melatonin is a popular diet supplement. After the age of forty, the human pineal gland gradually shrinks, and this hormone is slowly not secreted. After people have researched it, they think that it needs to be supplemented. This is the story of melatonin.

Should we take diet supplements?

According to Darwin’s theory of evolution, humans have been evolving for thousands of years, and a human being is a machine that no other computer can compare with. In the process of evolution, human organs are adjusted to a suitable state. When a certain hormone should not be secreted and when it should be secreted, nature will decide, and the so-called nature is the highest state.

Lao Tzu said it very well:

People follow the earth, the earth follows heaven, heaven follows the way, and the way follows nature.

This is naturally the highest realm, so don’t be too clever to supplant nature.

Why does the human body not secrete this hormone after the age of forty?

Let us consider the overall situation. We now discover locally that this hormone has decreased since the age of forty, and we go ahead to supplement it.

Do we know what will change once the hormone goes up? The human body is like a game of chess. Once we alter a piece, a whole game of chess will arise. Now we are far from truly knowing ourselves, so how sure are we that it will benefit us in the long run?

Ultimately we know that this thing is not good for our health, and we stop taking it like candy. This is a self-inflicted sin that we put on ourselves. This is what we call the reverse. Remember, doing the reverse is never good for us.

Thus, to stay healthy, we should control our foods and drinks, including diet supplements. Go with nature, do not reverse what nature plans for us.
