John had engaged in building a health foundation for several years. He advised young people to engage in building a health foundation in order to have a healthy body for a long time, without sickness and illness.
In order to maintain a healthy body, we as practitioners of life cultivation, recognize that certain activities will produce unhealthy results. We will always guard against them.
Prolonged sightings will interfere with our blood circulation. Prolonged lying down will interfere with our energy circulation. Prolonged sitting down will hurt our muscles. Prolonged standing will make our bones suffer. Prolonged walking will hurt our ligaments. This is summarized as the five activities that will cause body suffering.
03 The Seven Devils
As practitioners of life cultivation, we have learned to watch out for the five activities that may cause problems for maintaining body health. We will also make certain that we are not hurt by the seven devils that may harm our body.
One, a full stomach (resulting from eating too much) will harm our spleen and our digestive system.
Two, anger will reverse our energy circulation and will harm our liver.
Three, heavy lifting and sitting on wet ground will harm our kidneys.
Four, drinking ice cold water in cold weather will harm our lungs.
Five, thinking too much when tired will harm our mind.
Six, exposing ourselves to bad weather will harm our body.
Seven, fear without control will harm our will power.
If we constantly overeat, it will hurt our digestive system in the long run. We should stop eating when we are eighty percent full. Do not be tempted by good tasting food. An older person should eat less at each meal, and eat more frequently if they are hungry. This will help to improve his digestive system.
There are many ways to control the seven devils if we pay attention to them and nub them in the bud when they surface. Anger and Fear are two of the most destructive emotions. We learn how to maintain or contain these emotions when we are engaging in health foundation building.
04 Technique to lessen harmful effects
As practitioners of life cultivation, there is one stretching exercise that we do to lessen the harmful effects of the five activities and seven devils. Here is the procedure.
One, stand straight, spread feet the same width as shoulders, palms on the sides.
Two, turn your head to the right, slowly, looking to the back, until you can turn no more.
Three, return your head to the normal position, slowly.
Four, turn your head to the left, slowly, looking to the back, until you can turn no more.
Five, return your head to the normal position, slowly.
Sixth, repeat the motions for thirty six times.
The exercise will increase blood and energy circulation. It will calm our mind. It will prevent the five activities and seven devils from hurting our body. It will also maintain good health for our neck.
When you perform the exercise, note that when you turn your head to the right or left, make sure your body does not move with your head. The body should be straight and firmly anchored to the ground.
You may also incorporate deep breathing with this exercise. You inhale when you turn your head to the left or right, and you exhale when you return your head to its normal position.
05 Another technique
Here is another simple exercise to increase energy circulation. In our life cultivation practice, we call it the Swing and Slap Exercise. Here is the procedure.
One, stand with your feet spread. Twist and turn your head and waist. As you turn, you slap your back, shoulders, upper arms with your hand and palm.
You look to the right and left as you swing your arms. You look to the right as you slap with your right hand. You look to the left as you slap with your left hand.
While you slap on your shoulder with one arm, you slap on your waist with the other arm.
This exercise will increase energy and blood circulation. It will loosen the muscles and joints. It will increase lung capacity.
06 Baby for Illustration
A baby is void of all bad emotions. He is a pure joy at heart. He shows no harm to anyone. Even an animal will not eat a baby unless it is really very very hungry. A female animal may even feed and take care of a human baby.
When a baby clenches his fingers into a ball, it is very hard to separate the fingers. The baby puts his thumb into the center of the palm and then curves the other four fingers into a ball, which is different from the way an adult does it.
The penis of a baby is naturally erect, showing it has full energy circulation when born. The energy that a baby is born with is known as birth-energy and it will follow him throughout his whole life. It will naturally diminish as he ages and totally depleted upon his death.
The baby emits a sound quite different from an adult. He uses the frontal of his head, the center of his thorax, and the center of his belly to emit a sound. Thus his sound is clear, strong, and will travel fast. He can continue to emit the sound without a change of breath.
As the baby grows, he deviates from its natural course, making him prone to illness. It will affect his health and he will age prematurely.
In order to disrupt the aging process, it is advisable for a person to live naturally and lead a simple and carefree life just like a baby.
