06 Herbal Medicine Solutions

First Step

Replenish vital yuanqi, strengthen the body, and eliminate coldness and dampness.

Second Step

If the original descending channel is blocked, vital yuanqi will be obstructed. Therefore, while strengthening the spleen and stomach, we also need to dredge the meridians to unblock the vital yuanqi.

Case Study: Coronary Heart Disease

Herbal treatment

Patients with coronary heart disease must follow the protocol of Fu-zheng-qu-xie, which means strengthening the body and eliminating the evil-spirit.

Dr. Guo had a patient who underwent coronary artery stent surgery in 2011 and suffered a cerebral infarction in 2012, requiring another stent in the cerebral artery. In 2018, the patient felt unwell and a check-up revealed that the coronary artery stent was no longer effective, necessitating bypass surgery. Unable to afford the surgery, the patient sought treatment from Dr. Guo.

Dr. Guo strengthened the patient’s spleen and nourished the stomach, dredged the meridians, and administered moxibustion for a month. Before the herbal treatment, the patient experienced violent heartbeats, chest tightness, angina pectoris, and a stiff, painful back. After a month of treatment, the symptoms improved significantly.

Although moxibustion was discontinued due to inconvenience, the revitalization of the spleen-stomach subsystem continued for another four months, leading to significant improvement in heart symptoms and reduced panic and angina pectoris.

Artery stents

Artery stents and bypass surgeries provide temporary relief. An artery stent is a wire mesh tube inserted into the blood vessel to open a channel by squeezing the blockage to the outer circle. If the blockage is severe, bypass surgery is required.

Bypass Surgery

Bypass surgery involves cutting a blood vessel from an unimportant part of the body, making two holes at both ends of the blocked vessel, and connecting the cut section to the blocked section, allowing blood to take a detour.

These procedures provide temporary relief but do not solve the underlying problem. To truly address cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, we must treat them fundamentally.

Herbal Solutions

Herbal medicine starts with replenishing vital yuanqi and restoring the functions of the five internal organs, especially the liver, which is responsible for the flow of yuanqi. Sufficient liver-qi helps remove waste and clean blood vessels, reducing the need for expensive procedures like bypass or stenting. Moxibustion can also dispel coldness and dampness, relax muscles, and activate collateral effectively.

For treating cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, the most fundamental approach is to strengthen the spleen and stomach, relax muscles, and activate collaterals, supplemented with moxibustion. In emergencies, stenting and bypass surgery are necessary to save lives.
