As practitioners of life cultivation focused on body revitalization, some of us engage in slow-moving exercises in the morning, while others use a tapping stick to stimulate our bodies. The goal is to improve the circulation of vital yuanqi. Tapping all over the body activates the circulation of vital yuanqi, providing energy for our daily activities.
But how does it work, and how can we do it efficiently?
02 Make Your Own Tapping Stick
In countries like China, where many older adults focus on life cultivation, various products are available to support this practice, including tapping sticks.
A typical tapping stick is made of hardwood. If tapped forcefully, it can cause bruises; if tapped lightly, it may not be effective. Therefore, some prefer to make their own tapping sticks. Here’s how:
Gather a piece of sturdy fabric, such as used jeans, about 50 cm long and 20 cm wide.
Collect around 30 pieces of used newspapers.
Wrap the fabric around the newspapers until you form a stick.
Secure both ends of the stick by sewing, taping, or tying to prevent the newspapers from falling apart.

Now you have a home-made tapping stick.
The number of newspapers used will determine the stick’s hardness, allowing you to customize it to your preference. When using the stick, it should not cause pain; otherwise, it is too hard. The stick’s width, about half the size of your palm, ensures it taps several acupoints with each slap, as acupoints are close together. Simply tap in the general direction of the acupoints.
After making the stick, use it to tap all over your body for a few minutes to feel revitalized. If you prefer not to make one yourself, you can ask someone to make it for you or purchase one.
03 Tap Your Body Frequently
Ensure the tapping stick’s hardness and your tapping force do not cause pain. This technique not only stimulates acupoints but also relaxes muscles. The stick should be long enough to reach all parts of your body, enabling do-it-yourself health care.

You can tap your body after eating, walking, or while watching TV. Whenever your hands are free, pick up the stick and tap. Consistent daily tapping will enhance the flow of vital yuanqi and blood throughout your body, promoting overall health.
