Control Your Blood Sugar Levels: Embracing the Power of Herbal Medicine 03

06 Case Study: Use of Ancient Prescription

This case involves a traditional herbal practitioner, Dr. Guo Yaning, who practices in Xian, China. Dr. Guo treated a patient in his early seventies with a twenty-seven-year history of diabetes. Although the patient had no serious complications, he experienced blurred vision, itchy skin, palpitations, shortness of breath, and cold hands and feet.

When the patient first visited Dr. Guo, his fasting blood sugar was 14.7, and his post-meal blood sugar was 22.2. His urine sugar and urine protein levels were both marked with double plus signs. Despite injecting thirty units of insulin daily and taking hypoglycemic drugs, his post-meal blood sugar remained high.

Dr. Guo treated the patient with Wu-xing-jian-pi-san to strengthen his spleen-stomach subsystem and increase his vital yuanqi. She also administered a larger dosage of the ancient prescription for diabetes (Ku-gua, Shuang-sang-ye, Huai-mi) for about three to four months.

After one cycle, the patient’s vision improved, and his blood sugar levels steadily decreased. At his hospital check-up, his urine sugar and urine protein levels were reduced to plus signs. According to Dr. Guo, the goal of traditional herbal medicine in controlling high blood sugar is to eliminate the need for hypoglycemic drugs and insulin, thereby avoiding complications.

07 Whispers on the Side

As practitioners of life cultivation, we learn and practice traditional herbal medicine to revitalize our body condition. Sharing this case demonstrates that traditional methods can effectively control high blood sugar levels.

According to Dr. Guo Yaning, the first step in revitalization is to strengthen the spleen-stomach subsystem, as spleen deficiency is the root cause of diabetes. Replenishing the spleen deficiency ensures that other internal organs receive sufficient vital yuanqi, preventing complications.

Traditional herbal medicine has been passed down for generations, with various schools of thought emerging over thousands of years. Each school has its own expertise and treatment concepts.

As practitioners of life cultivation, our ultimate pursuit should align with the “neutral and peaceful” concept, similar to Huang Yuanyu’s “cultivating the middle earth” philosophy. Next, we will explore the differences between these schools of thought and Huang Yuanyu’s unique approach.

08 Brief Summary

Controlling high blood sugar levels requires long-term conditioning, and quick results should not be expected.

The first step is to strengthen the spleen-stomach subsystem to enable the body to break down sugar and produce enough vital yuanqi. For example, the prescription of Wu-xing-jian-pi-san.

The second step is to nourish the kidneys to ensure that vital yuanqi does not leak out and can be utilized by the body, such as with the prescription of goji.

The third step is to use a small formula to address the symptoms of diabetes, such as Ku-gua-gan, Shuang-sang-ye, and Huai-mi.
