01 Body maintenance principles

01 Let nature take its course.
02 Exercise appropriately.
03 Take nutritious foods.
04 Be morally upright in everything you do.

01 Let nature take its course
Your adaptation to the environment and your daily life should comply with the changes of yin and yang in nature.

Traditional herbal medicine believes that man and nature are a unified whole. As a human being, you are born between heaven and earth. The combination of heaven and earth is called man. Man is a small universe. It is an integral part of nature which is the big universe.

As a human being, you depend on the nourishment of the air of heaven and earth in nature, and must comply with the changes in the air of yin and yang in nature, so that “yin balances yang secretly, and the spirit governs.”

02 Exercise appropriately
As a practitioner of life cultivation, you must emphasize the degree or amount of physical exercise that you should be involved in for your health benefit.

Physical movement can promote the circulation of qi and blood.

“What we own is just blood and qi.”

“When qi and blood are harmonious, all diseases will not occur.”

“If there is depression, all diseases will occur.”

According to the principle of balance, both excess and deficiency are abnormal and should be treated as deviations of standard health. You should perform an appropriate amount of exercise according to your own specific body conditions, not more and not less.

03 Take nutritious foods
The types and ingredients of food should be balanced.

“Five grains are for nourishment, five fruits are for help, five meats are for benefit, and five vegetables are for supplement.” —–Huangdi Neijing, a medical classic

The diet should be rich in variety, and not to induce hotness or coldness inside your body. This usually happens when you favor or avoid certain foods which will throw your body out of balance.

04 Be morally upright in everything you do
You should deal with things appropriately, impartially, and peacefully.

Ancient people have long discovered that emotional fluctuations can cause physical illnesses, so they pay great attention to the inner balance of their mind.

“The flow of qi will lead to all kinds of illnesses. Anger causes qi to rise in its flow, joy causes qi to flow slowly and smoothly, sadness causes qi to stagnate in its flow, fear causes qi to be disordered in its flow, and overwork causes qi to be exhausted.” —–Huangdi Neijing, a medical classic

Emotional fluctuations can lead to internal chaos in the flow of qi and blood leading to illnesses. Modern medicine has also discovered that the proportion of human illnesses related to psychological depression is about 65% to 90%.

Negative emotions such as tension, anger, and hostility can easily damage the human immune system, making people susceptible to hypertension, coronary heart disease, arteriosclerosis and other diseases.

People with peaceful temperament have better psychological qualities. They can respond appropriately when encountering problems. They can maintain a peaceful state of mind which is beneficial to physical and mental health.
